Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched its CNG powered Innova in India. The alternative power technology will be available on all petrol powered variants of the Innova.
The DOHC VVTi petrol engine will be fitted with an added 123 kg CNG tank giving an opportunity to drivers to switch between petrol and CNG mode using a manual switch. According to the officials of Toyota, the CNG mode of the car offers a running coast of about Rs 1.6 per kilometer.
It is also believed that the CNG Innova offers about 50% saving over diesel in running costs. Speaking on the launch, the Managing Director of Toyota said, “Toyota is an environment conscious company committed to the cause of nurturing and protecting nature in its myriad forms. With CNG having established itself as an eco-friendly, reliable and economic fuel, TKM is pleased to announce India's first ever energy efficient MPV in India. This is yet another step in our efforts to make the environment more inhabitable.”
Toyota has tied up with M/s Minda Auto Gas Ltd. to supply the CNG kits for the Innova that comes with an advanced Lambda control system to ensure engine’s compliance with the Euro III norms.
The CNG Innova will be available with a price tag of Rs 85000 higher than the price of the current petrol variant.
