India’s leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki records 24.08% rise in its overall sales during the month of February with 79,190 units against 63,822 units in the corresponding month last year. This clearly shows signs of recovery from recessionary impacts. According to Maruti the sales in February this year is the highest ever “February-sales”.
After September 2008, the sales of Maruti drastically declined by 7.1%, 27.4%, and 10% for the months of October, November, and December, respectively. However, in January 2009 the company saw a rise of 5.39%.
The domestic sales of Maruti stood at 70,625 units in February which accounts for 19.08% rise against 59,311 units in the same month a year ago. The export stood at 8,565 units compared to 4,511 units in the corresponding month last year, reflecting a rise of 89.87%.
The sales of Maruti 800, Maruti’s iconic car, fell by 29.07% at 4,075 units last month against 5,745 units last year. The sales of A2 segment car comprising the A-Star, Alto, Zen Estilo, Swift and the WagonR reported a rise of 14.24% with sales of 50,331 units against 44,059 units in the same month last fiscal.
