Porsche has rolled out the 250,000th Cayenne from its Leipzig plant situated in Germany. The car has marked a significant milestone in the successful history of Porsche.
It is believed that the 250,000th Cayenne is a white, 6-cylinder diesel sporty SUV that is to be delivered to a customer in Austria. The Cayenne was first rolled out in 2002 and since then it has received good response from car buyers across the globe because of its robustness and off-road capability.
According to the officials from Porsche, the car manufacturer has sold 150,000 Porsche Cayenne worldwide from its first generation. The second generation was introduced in February 2007 and has recorded sales of 45,478 units in the fiscal 2007-2008. The second generation Cayenne has received better response from various car markets due to its high fuel efficiency, better performance, and improved drive-handling. Apart from Germany and the USA, Porsche Cayenne has also done wonders in markets of China, Russia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
The Chairman of the Board of Porsche AG, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, said, “The introduction of the Cayenne as the third model in the series was an important strategic step for Porsche. The five-seater is not only a great addition to the range for our many long-term Porsche customers, but it also opens up to us an entirely new customer segment on international markets.”
In the present day, Cayenne series is available in seven different models. The entry level model is powered by a 3.6-litre, six-cylinder engine with 289 bhp; the diesel model showcased at 2009 Geneva Motor Show with a 3.0-litre cubic capacity engine with 239 bhp; the powerful S version powered by a 4.8-litre, 8-cylinder engine with 384 bhp; the turbo engine with 499 bhp; the turbo S powered by a twin turbocharger with a 449 bhp; the athletic GTS model powered by 4.8-litre engine; and the seventh model is the Cayenne S Transsyberia for on-road and off-road driving.
The credibility of the Porsche Cayenne is further proved by the rating given to the car by a research institute J.D Power Asia. In 2008 the institute had rated the car in its segment for its excellent manufacturing quality and high reliability.
