Car manufacturers have reported good sales number after a phase of dropping sales for past eight months. The month of February saw an impressive growth in sales due to various reasons like price cut and easy car loans.
The passenger car market leader Maruti Suzuki’s sales figure rose by 19% to 70,625 units in February 2009 against to 59,311 units in the same month last fiscal. The company recorded highest ever sales in the month of February. Maruti Suzuki’s export sales also grew by 24% to 79,190 cars. Hyundai Motor‘s domestic sales also accounted 45.3% growth to 21,215 units against 14,600 units last year.
Mr. Arvind Saxena, Senior Vice President marketing and sales, Hyundai said, “The increase in sales is some good news, but overall the situation in the automobile market still remains challenging. Sales saw a slight upturn, but the growth could be high on account of lower base of last year when retail sales were less on account of anticipated excise duty cuts in the budget resulting in substantial amount of sales were deferred till March. We are expecting a flat rate of growth in the current quarter.”
