Maruti Suzuki launches a new K12M engine that is India’s first BS IV compliant engine. This new 1197 cc all aluminium engine is the second K series engine. The first K series engine introduced by Maruti is fitted in the Maruti Suzuki A-Star and then the second generation engine is to be fitted in the forthcoming premium compact car, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz.
Commenting on the launch of the new K series engine, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, said, “K12M engine is another example of Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to take engine technology in India to the next level. This is in line with parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation’s focus on maximizing the environmental benefits of fully proven technologies. For this, Suzuki is fully exploiting the know-how gained in over 50 years of compact-car production. K-series engine is the latest innovation coming from this focus. K series engines are not just fuel efficient but also low on CO2 emissions. The K12M engine further strengthens Maruti Suzuki’s efforts for fuel efficient, green engine technology for customers in India.”
The K12M engine is being manufactured in Maruti Suzuki’s brand new production facility situated in Gurgaon that was inaugurated in 2008 with the launch of the k10b engine.
The new K12M engine has been specifically designed to suit Indian conditions. It is a light-weight engine that offers the best-in-class fuel efficiency and performance as well as lower emissions and lower levels of NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness). Being fitted in the Ritz, the proposed car will also prove to be the best in the compact car segment.
