During this time of the fiscal year when car manufacturers are struggling to boost sales, Maruti Suzuki rejoices with the sales of its popular small car Alto crossing a mark of 23,000.
According to the company’s official the Alto has crossed a mark of 20,000 in one single month for about 11 times. In the month of March 2009 the car has recorded a rise of 20.98% with car sales that stood at 23,569 in March 2009 against 19,482 units in March 2008.
The official also states that so far in the history of Indian car industry only two cars have crossed a mark of 20,000 in one single month, Alto and 800. M800 is India’s iconic car that has crossed this sales mark once whereas the Alto has crossed this mark for about 11 times.
It is also believed that last month Alto crossed a mark of 10,000 and that was the 51st consecutive month for the company in which Alto made sales of over 10,000 units.
According to Maruti’s senior official, “The model is very successful among the people and we sold 2.12 lakh units in 2008-09.” He also added that Alto was the first car to sell over two lakh units in the domestic market in one single financial year.
