Hyundai Enters the Taxi Segment

Hyundai Motor India Ltd enters the taxi segment in Mumbai by handing over its best selling Santro to the Mumbai Taxi Union at a ceremony organized at Modi Hyundai dealership.

It is believed that the Mumbai city comprises of around 50,000 black & yellow taxis which are now to be replaced by new vehicles. In the initial period there will be about 30 Santro in the form of taxis on Mumbai roads and by December 2009 there will be around 1250 Santro taxis. Among the total number of Santro taxis on road about 500 will be equipped with air-conditioner. The introduction of Santro as taxis is aimed at the government’s decision to phase out 25 years old vehicles plying on roads.

On account, Sr. GM, National Sales, Hyundai, Mr. D. C. Seol, said, “Santro is a proven and low-maintenance vehicle with lots of interior space and we are happy that the Taxi and Autorickshaw Welfare Sangh has chosen Santro for its fleet of cars to be used as Taxi’s. We want to make a breakthrough in the Mumbai taxi market and hope to start it with the Santro. For Mumbaikars, the move would be another welcome choice as the spacious Santro with reliable performance would provide a comfortable alternative to the existing ones.”

Hyundai is at present selling its popular small car Santro at a discounted price of Rs 2,42,500 to the taxi owners in Mumbai. Hyundai Santro is a durable and reliable car with comfortable and spacious interiors, peppy engine, and functional features.
