Fiat is all set to bring in its latest hatchback Grande Punto to the Indian car market on June 17th. The new car will be available in both petrol and diesel variants and will be positioned in the premium small car segment.
Fiat India Automobiles, which is a joint venture between Italian Fiat SpA and domestic car manufacturer Tata Motors, will launch the Grande Punto to rival the soon to be released Honda Jazz. It will also compete with the Skoda Fabia, Hyundai i20, and Maruti Suzuki Ritz. The company has however not revealed the price of the new car when launched.
The model is credited with having steered Fiat’s fortunes in Europe after the Grande Punto launch there in 2005.
A statement released by Fiat India stated that “Grande Punto will roll out from the company’s state-of-art plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra”. The facility has a capacity of two lakh cars annually and the localisation content in the car would be increased up to 85 percent by the end of this year.
“The sales of Grande Punto will be channelized through a robust Tata-Fiat dealer network comprising of over 100 sales and service outlets”, said the statement.
Currently, Fiat markets the Palio Stile hatchback, 500 hatchback, and Linea sedan in the Indian car market.
