Maruti Suzuki Ritz which was launched just about a couple of months back already has the scales balanced with its stable mate Maruti Swift. Ritz has crossed the 8,000 units a month barrier in it May sales, slightly lower than the sales of Maruti Swift.
If Maruti maintains the Ritz sales soaring in the coming months along with the Swift, it will substantially increase its market share in the premium small car market in India.
The Ritz, which has been built on the same platform as Swift, is positioned as a family car unlike Swift which is branded as more sporty. In the international market, the Ritz is known as the Fit and replaces Wagon R. But in India, Maruti Suzuki Ritz has been positioned in a different segment from the Wagon R and the company says Ritz has not dented Wagon R sales.
Industry watchers say that Maruti has been able to introduce competing models, yet grow its combined share of both the models. However, while the initial numbers of any new model look encouraging, one has to wait and watch if the volumes remain the same over the coming months.
The initial sales of Ritz has Maruti gleaming with pride and joy. But its is for the time to say who the clear winner is with the launch of Honda Jazz, Fiat Grande Punto and existing models like Maruti Swift and Hyundai i-20.
