Indian auto major Tata Motors has plans to launch an electric car by September this year. He made the statement at the Cornell Global Forum on Sustainable Global Enterprise organized by the university on June 5 while speaking on Cornell. Tata is a trustee of the university.
The latest announcement seems that its electric car project is successful. In 2008, Mr Ratan Tata, while speaking at the annual general meeting had stated that the company was developing an electric car based on Tata Indica.
Tata Motors was developing the electric car in collaboration with a Norwegian electric vehicle manufacturer. The car will be first launched in Europe and later brought to India.
The United States media also quoting Mr. Ratan Tata speculated that Tata Nano would be introduced in that country in near future.
Car buyers across the world are showing keen interest in electric cars due to zero emission levels and helps decrease dependency on fossil fuels. When launched the new Tata electric car will rival the homegrown electric vehicle major Reva Electric Car Company in India.
