By Motortrend India Staff   |   26 July,2009

Hyundai Motor India, one among the major car manufacturer of the country, will shift the production of its i20 model for exports from India to Europe sometime next year. For the overseas and domestic market, the company has been manufacturing its Hyundai i20 model from the Irungattukottai unit near to Chennai.

The company has units in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Turkey, and it has not been yet decided by the company from which unit the car will be rolled out in Europe. The domestic demand for the model has far exceeded the company's original expectations of 400 units per month and the shift from India to Europe will help the customers and it is sure not to have any ill impact on the company’s operations in India.

The shift will not have any impact on the Indian operations as the domestic demand for the model has far exceeded the company's original expectations of 400 units per month, he added.

Because of the absence of free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU), exports to that region were being affected due to the 6.5 percent import duty levied by the EU.
