Toyota Launches the Fortuner

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced the Toyota Fortuner to the Indian Market. The new Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is priced at Rs 18.45 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between Japan-based Toyota Motor Corporation and India's Kirloskar Group.

The Toyota Fortuner is powered by a 3.0 Litre D-4D diesel engine with five speed manual transmission and comes with an All-Time Four Wheel Drive.

Speaking to reporters during the launch senior managing director of Toyota Motor Corp Akira Okabe said, "Globally, Fortuner has already sold over 2.5 lakh units in more than 60 countries since its launch in 2005. The launch of Fortuner today is an expression of Toyota's commitment to provide best in class quality and technology to our customers in India." He said that the SUV would be assembled at its plant in Bidadi near Bangalore.

"The SUV market in India has witnessed extensive growth due to launches in mid and premium SUV segment. We expect that the launch of the Fortuner will expand the mid SUV market in India," Toyota Kirloskar Motor Deputy Managing Director (marketing) Sandeep Singh said.

The Toyota Fortuner comes loaded with safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), SRS front airbags, dynamic safety engineering, laminated glazed windscreen, front and rear side impact door beams, and front/rear seat belts. The SUV also comes with sonar back feature for easy parking in narrow space.
