BMW, the German car manufacturer has posted an increase in the sales during January-July catapulting it to the top-position in the high- end car segment.
BMW India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of BMW Group had an increase in sales for up to 14 per cent during January-July where the company sold over 2,008 units in India compared to 1,763 units sold same time last year. BMW India is confident of selling over 3,000 units this year.
While the sales of BMW is going up, sales of Mercedes Benz is showing a decline of up to 21.02 per cent.
"After seven months, we are number one. Our target is to stay number one in 2009 and we are very much on track," said Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India.
The company has big expansion plans for India. It will increase the number of dealerships in the country, and by October, the company will launch a new model Z4, a two-seater roadster which would cost 50-60 lakhs.
"It's a niche model, so we are not expecting any big numbers. We hope to sell 40 cars every year," he added.
