Car Launches at 2010 Auto Expo

The 10th Auto Expo began yesterday and will be formally inaugurated on Jan 7 by Heavy Industries Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma. About 2,100 participants from 30 countries are participating in the event.

The event is being organised by SIAM, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd unveiled its small concept car, Etios at the Auto Expo in New Delhi.

“With the introduction of the Etios we will enter the mass volume segment. We are looking at a sales volume of 70,000 units in the first year,” Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motors said. The company would launch both hatchback and sedan under the Etios series with 1.2 litres and 1.5 litres petrol engines respectively.

Tata Motors unveiled the Aria, the cross-over between a multi-utility and sports utility vehicle, at the Auto Expo. It has also previewed its passenger carrier Magic Iris and MPV Venture, besides the Jaguar XJ.

Maruti Suzuki showcased a concept prototype of its six-seater family car. The concept prototype that the car maker launched is called the RIII. The company clearly stated that it was showcasing the prototype for now and the variants will be decided later. The Concept RIII is a next generation compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle designed in-house by a team of young and energetic Maruti Suzuki Engineers.

Honda showcased the CR-Z concept and the small car. Renault has displayed its electric car Twizy ZE which was inaugurated by Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi.

Volkswagen unveiled the Polo that comes both in diesel and petrol engines.
