Honda India has cleared the recent media reports about the early launch of its new small car in India. Honda's new small car will not be launched in India before scheduled time. It will be launched as intended earlier, by next year.

The new 5-door hatchback from Honda is a premium compact car, which has been developed in Japan and will be manufactured at Honda’s Greater Noida facility from 2011. Honda's new small car is chiefly an India oriented model and will be launched in Thailand too after analyzing its performance in India.

Just a few days back, it had been reported that Honda is mulling to launch the new small car by the year-end, instead of next year. Many news papers followed the same news in their edition. However, when Jnaneshwar Sen, vice-president for marketing, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), was contacted, he categorically denied any such development.

Mr Sen has said that the company has no such plans and it believes that next year will not be too late to launch the vehicle. According to him, the penetration of cars in India is still low and there is a lot of space to grow.

Honda’s new small car was displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo where it was main attraction among car enthusiasts. Honda had announced that the production version of Honda’s new small car will be priced below Rs 5 lakh and will be manufactured with 80‰ local content. It is expected to be exported to other nations as well, including Brazil, Russia and parts of Europe.

Honda’s new small car may compete with some of the most popular cars in India like the Maruti Wagon R and A-Star, Hyundai Santro and i10, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto.
