Volkswagen Polo, which was launched in India 23rd of February, 2010, has crossed the 5000 units mark. However, the buyers are made to wait for 3 to 4 months after booking the vehicle, as the company will take this much time for the vehicle delivery.
The Polo, which was showcased during at the Delhi Auto expo in January, got a tremendous response from automobile enthusiasts. Later the Polo was launched with a price tag of Rs. 4.34 lakh (ex showroom New Delhi), but now the hatchback is sold at Rs. 4.42 lakh (New Delhi Ex-showroom). This is due to the 2 per cent excise duty hike that was announced by the government in the Union Budget 2010.
Currently, the company delivers only the petrol variants of the Polo, while the deliveries of the diesel variants starts from May 2010.
The Volkswagen Polo is competing with other popular hatchbacks in India, including Maruti Suzuki Swift and Ritz, Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 and i20, and Fiat Punto. And with a number of new launches coming up, the competition is only going to get fierce.
