Maruti Suzuki India has registered its highest ever monthly sales in May, as new models and increasing consumer income boosted demand for new cars. The company reported a 28 per cent rise in vehicle sales for May 2010.
Total sales rose by 27.9 per cent to 102,175 units in May, 2010 as compared to 79,872 units sold in the same month a year ago.
It is the first time when Maruti Suzuki has sold more than one lakh units of new car in a single month. The former higher figure in sales, of 96,650 units, was registered in February 2010.
Majority of the sales in the month has come from the A2, A3 and C segments. Sales growth in these segments stood at 16.6 per cent, 60.5 per cent and 70 per cent respectively.
Export of new cars increased by 33.5 per cent to 12,134 units as compared to the 9,087 units sold a year ago.
