Nissan Motors India has launched its new compact car Micra in Delhi. With the launch of Micra, Nissan has entered the coveted small car market in India. The company had started accepting bookings for the Micra from 25 May, and the response for the car has been very encouraging so far.
The Nissan Micra will be available in three variants XE, XL and XV and will be priced between Rs 3.98 lakh and Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new car will be equipped with a 1.2 litre petrol engine that generates 75bhp and a torque output of 104Nm @ 4000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox which helps achieve fuel economy and quick acceleration.
Micra is the first car in its segment to provide driver airbag as standard on the basic variant also. The basic variant also flaunts a drive computer and tilt adjustable steering. The top end Micra features modern safety technologies like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).
The car will be produced at the company’s manufacturing plant in Chennai. Nissan has tried its best to keep the prices competitive by localising the content. In the end, Nissan managed to localize it up to 85 per cent, which is one of the highest among competition. Nissan Micra will compete with Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 and i20, which are priced in the Rs 3.44 lakh and Rs 6.95 lakh bracket.
The global hatchback which is aimed at the urban youth is likely to do well in the Indian market. Deliveries of the new Nissan Micra will begin within days after the launch.
