Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata has said that he regrets that the company could not do the Nano car project which it wanted to do in West Bengal. The state, nevertheless, would always be there as a part of the group’s corporate identity.

“We regret we have not been able to do what we wanted to do over here,” he said, without mentioning the Singur project in the annual general meeting of the company.

Continued agitation by Trinamool Congress, which demanded return of 400 acres acquired from farmers, forced the Indian car maker to move the Nano car project to Sanand in Gujarat.

“We are dedicated to the cancer hospital that is coming up. It is hoped that it will start this year. West Bengal is very much a part of our total corporate identity,” Tata said.

And the company is building a cancer hospital in Rajarhat in the northeastern limits of the city.
