Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has launched the new version of its best selling model Alto. The new version, christened Alto-K10, is equipped with a one litre engine from the company’s latest generation K-series engines.
“The Alto’s package of performance, fuel efficiency and attractive cost of ownership have together made it India’s most popular car. The Alto-K10 will take this forward,” Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Managing Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi told.
Nakanishi also said that the company is planning to advance its capacity expansion plans. Its second unit in Haryana is scheduled to be inaugurated by April 2012. Nakanishi added that the company was working on ways to advance that to an earlier date.
The K10 is almost 125mm longer than the earlier version and this is to accommodate the new engine. The Alto K10 comes with tinted glasses and a new cable transmission. The rear exteriors of the Alto K10 get a fresh look, with a newly designed back door and a set of new tail lights. Standard features like air-conditioning and power steering included in the new BS-IV, E-10 and ELV compliant Alto K10.
The existing Alto, with an average of 20,000 units every month, is the largest selling car in India. The company expects the new Alto-K10 to bring in additional customers. MSI claims that Alto K10 will give a mileage of 20.2 km per litre.
The Alto K10 will be priced between Rs 3.03 lakh and Rs 3.16 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
