Indian Utility vehicle major Mahindra & Mahindra’s global sports utility vehicle XUV500, which was launched simultaneously in domestic and international markets, has received 200 bookings in South Africa.

The vehicle was first launched in India on September 29, followed by South Africa the next day. “The initial response has been very encouraging with the vehicle creating a great deal of excitement amongst dealers in South Africa.”

“The product already has a booking order of 200 vehicles from dealers,” Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Chief Executive International Operations (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors) Pravin Shah told PTI.

The company also participated in the Johannesburg International Motor show through its subsidiary Mahindra South Africa and showcased the XUV500, he added.

“Amidst a motor show filled with numerous international OEMs, the XUV500 got a lot of eye-balls and received an overwhelmingly good response,” Shah said.

The company had launched the SUV in India at an introductory price between Rs 10.8 lakh and Rs 11.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The vehicle is priced between ZAR 2,39,900 (about Rs 14.79 lakh) and ZAR 2,94,900 (about Rs 18.18 lakh) in South Africa.

After receiving over 8,000 bookings in just 10 days, M&M temporarily suspended taking new orders for the XUV500 on October 11 in India.
