The 9th Auto Expo just kicked off in New Delhi. Let’s get a highlight of the new launches in the auto sector at the event before its open for public from January 10-17, 2008.
As many as 29 countries are participating at the show. With countries like China, France, Canada, Italy, Germany, Spain, and the US and UK participating, it would witness the largest ever overseas participation since the inception of Auto Expos across the globe. The participation of concept cars and electric cars into the Expo doubles the recognition of the show. The Expo is organized by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) jointly.
“The car industry in India is growing by manifold and so are exports and imports. We have 1.3 million cars on the Indian road and this figure is expected to grow to 20 million by 2016. Imports touched the 4 million mark in 2007, while exports were near about 3.5 million in 2007”, said Sanjay Labroo, President of ACMA (The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India) in a press meet.
There’s something unique about this Auto Expo. For the first time, apart from cars and motorbikes, it also includes a Robo Expo in the same venue. The Robo Expo’s focus would be automation techniques and robotics.
What’s the most-awaited car at the show this year? No prices for guessing! It’s definitely the most hyped ‘Peoples Car’ by Tata Motors. Tata is also set to launch its revamped Sumo and Indica. Honda follows close with the launch of the Jazz model and a brand new Accord. Maruti Suzuki India unveils its Concept Cars, A-Star and Splash. Volkswagen makes a sturdy entry with SUVs.
