India’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra is set to launch 10 new vehicles in the next three years. The new vehicles will be based on four new platforms that will further be used for different body styles. These platforms are currently being developed to suit domestic and international markets.
The company is contemplating using emerging technologies for these various vehicles. Technologies like the hybrid and bio-fuel engines are in different stages of development and green cars is the flavor that is being explored for M&M’s international venture. The MUV (multi-utility vehicle) Ingenio was unveiled at the recently held 9th Auto Expo, and development of a global SUV will be added to its portfolio in 2010.
Mahindra plans to develop low cost entry level vehicles for the Indian market. These low cost vehicles will be able to seat four or five passengers and will be based on the new platforms and newly developed low cost technologies. The company officials have clarified that they will not join the small car race for a Nano-like vehicle, but will concentrate on developing new technologies.
The company already has two successful utility vehicles like the Scorpio and Bolero. The new SUV entries may follow their predecessors footsteps and capture the market with their revolutionary technologies.
