Ford Motor Company, a leading car maker in the world, has decided to roll out its small car to the Indian car market by next year. Presently, there are no plans to set up a manufacture unit for this project as it will be time consuming. The company will be using the existing platforms for production of the new car.

According to MD & President of Ford India Arvind Mathew “it is not possible to start fresh with the technology and deliver the product in two years and hence the old shared technology concept will be in use”. He, however, emphasized on the fact that this new car would be totally customized for the Indian customer.

For the new project, Ford India engineers will be working with their counterparts in Germany, England and Australia. The actual price is not yet declared but it will definitely be lower than the entry level model Ford Ikon.

The small car will be built on the platforms of the existing Ford Ikon or Ford Fiesta models. It is claimed that this new car has been codenamed ‘B402’. The small car project clearly indicates Ford’s strategy to generate better sales to survive the ever increasing competition in the Indian car market.
