Maruti Suzuki has announced a hike in the range of Rs 1,000 to Rs 18,000 on the prices of all its cars. Earlier this month, the company had indicated that a price hike was imminent due to rising inputs costs on steel, aluminium, rubber, and plastics. It had deferred the announcement of the exact amount of hike and had waited to calculate the quantum of increase.
The prices of all variants of the fast selling Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire sedan have been hiked by Rs 18,000. The car was initially launched in the price range of Rs. 4.68 lakh to Rs. 6.25 lakh. The premium hatchback Swift has also undergone a price change. The diesel version of the car is now costlier by Rs. 15,000 and the price of the petrol version has been upped by Rs. 9,000. The prices of the SX4 sedan and Gypsy too have gone up by Rs. 9000 and the Versa MUV price has gained by Rs. 8000.
The flagship model of Maruti Suzuki in the small car segment - Alto and M800 are dearer by Rs 1,500. The other small cars Zen Estilo and WagonR Duo (LPG) have added Rs. 1000 to their price. The variants of WagonR petrol and Omni have had their prices raised by Rs. 2000.
The only untouched Maruti model is terms of price is the Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV. It continues to be sold at the same price.
This is the second time that Maruti Suzuki has hiked prices this year. The company has previously gone in for a price hike in January. The prices of all cars had gone down briefly after the finance minister’s announcement of reduction in excise duties on all small cars by 4 percent.
