The smart car Swift has registered a new sales record, after having seen success with its small cars M 800, Zen and Alto. It has crossed the sales figures of 2 lakh units in just 36 months.
According to a company official, Maruti Swift is the fastest selling car in India. The car was launched in petrol variant on May 2005, and since then has been clocking new records. It had sold 61,200 units in the first year of its launch.
Presently, the diesel variant has outnumbered the petrol car and is 60 percent of the car manufactured at Maruti’s plant. Swift registered a sale of 9,490 units in April, which was the highest ever sales recorded by Maruti in a single month. The company had launched a face-lifted Swift earlier this year.
Swift is priced in the range of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5.15 lakh. The company has also received several awards, since it was launched into the market. It may be recalled that Maruti Suzuki Alto crossed the 10 lakh mark earlier this year. Maruti Suzuki is also the highest exporter of cars manufactured in India.
According to the data by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Maruti sold 51,766 units of all vehicles in domestic market during the month of April. The sale was 22.30 percent high compared to last years’ sales of 42,326 units.
