Japanese auto maker Honda motors has finally launched the country’s first hybrid car, the Civic Hybrid.

The hybrid comes with 1.3 litre petrol engine that produces 95 PS and an electric motor which churn out 16 bhp power. The car is priced at Rs 21.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The company will import the completely built unit (CBU) from its Japan plant where it manufactures the hybrid cars.

Honda Siel Car India, President and CEO Masahiro Takedagawa said, “This car comes to India at a much higher price as the import duty is over 100 per cent and has asked the government to support them in promoting this eco-friendly car. In other countries, government subsidises such eco-friendly cars. We are hopeful that the government in India will also look at lowering the import duty."

Honda has taken this major step to strengthen its market in India. The Civic Hybrid was developed way back in 1999 and has sold over 26,0000 units across the globe and India is the 33rd country where Honda has launched its Civic Hybrid.
