KK Swamy joins Volkswagen group

One of the most successful senior executives of auto companies Mr. KK Swamy has joined the Volkswagen group, India. He will be appointed as the Managing Director and vice president of India operations on July 21.


Making an announcement in this regard, a statement issued by the company said that Mr. Swamy has been appointed to the board of directors of Volkswagen India with effect from July 21.


Mr. Swamy will be only second to the managing direct and president of VW India operations Mr. Jeorg Muller when he takes over the position.


Mr. Swamy was earlier associated with Toyota Kirloskar Motors India for over a decade. He contributed a successful stint at the setting up at the Toyota brands in India and also establishing the Greenfield project of Toyota Kirloskar in Bangalore. He was also associated with Toyota when they announced the Rs 1400 crore venture to launch the much needed small car for Indian market by 2010.


Mr. Swamy is considered a success for making Toyota brand a household name in India. The Toyota Qualis became an instant hit. Presently Toyota Innova is the most successful model priced at over Rs 12 lakh.


Volkswagen plans to launch several new models in India. It also has a large presence in luxury car market through its subsidiaries Skoda and Audi.
