Tata Motors to Expand Production Capacity for Nano

Tata Motors is planning to increase the production capacity for the Nano as it is experiencing higher than expected demand in India and overseas.


According to the company’s annual report, the customer’s response for the car in India was unprecedented and enormous interest was also shown by certain foreign countries. The company currently aims to meet the domestic demands first and then will ply for the overseas markets.


Ratan Tata said, “The high volumes of the Nano range will dramatically change Tata Motors's market position.” At present Maruti Suzuki is the market leader with 51.4 % market share in the country while the Hyundai Motor has 18 % and the Tata Motors have 13.9 percent in the year ended March 31.


Tata Motors is currently working on its super-cheap car at its Singur plant and presently has the capacity to build 250,000 units annually.
