Honda Civic Hybrid, the first hybrid car of India has witnessed unexpected sales. Till now the company has sold around 50 hybrid cars, mainly to the Honda car dealers and a small percentage to high networth individuals.
The new Civic Hybrid which cost extra Rs 10 lakh over the petrol version of Civic has made outstanding sales in the Indian car market. However, the company plans to sell around 200 units of its hybrid in the country.
Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, senior General Manager (marketing), Honda Siel said, “We find the retail customers of the Civic Hybrid to be well travelled and techno-savvy. Also, their decision to buy the Civic Hybrid stems from a need to save the environment through better fuel consumption.”
The Honda Civic Hybrid is imported from Japan as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The car is 47 % more fuel efficient when compared to the petrol version of Civic where it gives an extra 5-7 km above the 10 km by the petrol version of Civic. The hybrid car is priced at Rs 21.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Following Honda Motors, now many car manufacturers are working on to develop hybrid models for the Indian market.
