Maruti Suzuki Reported Decline in Car Sales

Maruti Suzuki, the country’s biggest car manufacturer, has reported an overall decline of 9.19% in car sales.


During the month of August, the company had successfully sold 59,908 units but the figures are comparatively less than those sold in the same month last year. In August 2007, the company had sold off 65,968 units.


The domestic car sale is still down with a decline of 10.15%. Though the domestic sale is down, exports have increased marginally at 5,795 units as against 5,739 units in August 2007. The drastic decline is reported in the sale of Maruti’s soul car, the Maruti 800. This great legendary model of Maruti has reported a decline of 32.17% at 3,717 units as against 5,480 units last year.


The A2 segment that comprises of the Alto, Zen Estilo, Swift and WagonR showed a decline of 9.75% with the sales that stood at 37,667 units, less than that compared to 41,736 units in the corresponding month last year.


The A3 segment comprising of the SX4, Swift DZire and Esteem has shown a growth by 12.15% with 5,427 units as against 4,839 units last year. Inspite of the growth in A3 segment, the overall car sales has declined.
