The wait for Audi R8 is likely to be over November this year. The company plans to launch sports car R8 based on Audi Le Mans Quattro concept car and has an ambitious target of 1000 units within this financial year.
Currently, Audi line-up in India includes A4, A6, A8, TT coupe and Q7 SUV. According to the company sources, the R8 is likely to cost over Rs 1.17 crore. The orders for booking R8 started back in June from Audi’s outlets across India.
Talking about it to media persons, the vice president for Marketing (Audi India) Mr Martin Birkner said that R8 will currently be imported from Germany and will not be available for test drives.
The R8 will join the fast car club, which currently comprises of only a handful of names. The R8 is propelled by 4.2L FSI V8 engine generating 420 bhp, and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The car can achieve a top speed of 300 km/h. The exterior design is neatly sculpted to evoke awe. R8 will be available with exclusive equipments and an array of customized interior options. The R8 will turn heads towards it where ever its goes. The R8 will be in direct competition with Porsche Carrera S.
Mr Benoit Tiers, Managing Director Audi India said, “The luxury segment is growing fast and Audi is leading the pack with record number of sales.” So far, the luxury car manufacturer Audi has already posted 200 percent growth in India this year compared to the figures posted last year. The company recently started assembling luxury car A4 in India, which helped in bringing down prices and increase sales.
People are ready to pay for luxury cars and the young customers do not blink twice on hearing the price. This makes India one of the most attractive destinations for luxury car manufacturer in India.
