Car Manufacturers will Declare Fuel Consumption

By Motortrend India Staff   |   24 November,2008

It is now mandatory for car manufacturers to mention the average fuel consumption and fuel efficiency of cars before marketing their respective car models.

The suggestion was made by a panel of officials including the ministry of petroleum & natural gas’ scientific advisory committee chairman and former HPCL CMD MB Lal. The board suggested that this kind of declaration of average mileage per litre of fuel by car manufacturers will help car customers make perfect decisions regarding their car purchase.

The decision is enforced aimed at promoting fuel-efficient vehicles in the country. The committee feels that the standards citing the efficiency can be better interpreted by car drivers and therefore it should not be based on the parameters of carbon dioxide emissions. Further to that, RC Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki, stated, “Recorded fuel efficiency of a car would not be the same in city condition.”
