General Motors Enters the Used Car Business

By Motortrend India Staff   |   17 December,2008

General Motors now enters the used car business. The decision is attributed to the current market slump where car manufacturers are in a continuous search of new avenues to increase car sales and raise the market.

For General Motors, January 15, 2009 will see a new dawn when the company will roll out its used car retail initiative. It will be branded as 'Chevrolet OK' and will deal only with General Motors cars. Initially the company will open 10 used-car outlets in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

General Motors India president and M.D. Karl Slym said, “We will provide customers with certified used-cars guaranteed by Chevrolet. The cars will undergo a 110 point check-up and certification.” Mr. Slym added that the company's expansion plans will not be affected by the failure of the bailout package of $14-billion that General Motors,Chrysler, and Ford were expecting from the U.S Government.

Mr. Slym also adds that the used-car business will be rolled out as part of a pilot project test and if the business receives a good response, the company will further decide on the expansion plans of the Chevrolet OK.
