The month of November has proved to be a curse for car manufacturers. With all the car manufacturers reporting a decline in car sales, Maruti Suzuki India, the largest Indian car manufacturer, has recorded 27.4% dip in car sales during November this year. It is said that the company sold about 47,103 units in November against 64,885 units in the same month last year.
Overall sales of cars have dropped down from 69,699 units in November 2007 to about 52,711 units in November 2008, accounting for a dip of 24.4%.
According to industry resources, sales of compact cars including the Alto, Zen Estilo, Wagon R, Swift and A-Star recorded a 26.6% dip with the total sales of 34,976 units in the reporting month.
However, the sedans including the SX4 and Dzire showed a growth of about 40.3% that accounts for about 5,975 units as compared to 4,260 units in the corresponding month last year.
Apart from a recorded growth in the sales of sedan, Maruti Suzuki has also witnessed 11.7% growth in the export.
Though the growth in the sales of sedan and export market is appreciable in this time of downturn, the overall drop in car sales has brought a nightmare to the manufacturer.
