Maruti Suzuki, a market leader in manufacturing passenger cars, has successfully completed 25 glorious years in the Indian car market on 14th December, 2008.
Since its inception, the company has introduced many car models in the country. Maruti 800 being a popular model from the house of Maruti is deginated as India's iconic car. It is believed that on 14th December, 1983, the then Prime Minister of India, Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi, handed over the car keys to the first Maruti customer. Since then, the company has rolled out a number of car models and variants across segments, meeting the needs and aspirations of the buyers.
Speaking on the celebration, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi said, “The Government of India had entrusted the company a responsibility of building low cost, fuel efficient cars for the people of India and also building firm foundation for the modernization and growth of Indian automobile industry. Thanks to the support of our stakeholders, we have successfully led the automobile revolution in India. It is a time for us to thank everyone who helped us in our journey so far. Now, we are positioning India as the global small car manufacturing hub, in line with the government's vision.”
At present Maruti is putting in efforts to fulfill the government's desire to place India in the global map for producing best-in-class small cars. In response to these efforts, the company has also invested a huge amount in two of its manufacturing facilities. These two plants include Maruti Suzuki's diesel engine plant at Manesar, and the fuel-efficient KB-series engine plant at Gurgaon.
Presently, Maruti Suzuki has a strong vendor and customer base with around 225 vendors many of them listed in stock exchange and over 1 Lakh customers across the country. In addition, over 600 sales outlets, 2,628 workshops, and about 7,100 employees, delivers Maruti the flexibility to cater to various changes in market demand in minimum time.
Maruti Suzuki till date has manufactured around seven and a half million cars in India out of which 2.7 million units are credited to Maruti 800. The company is a leader of Indian car market with a market share of over 54% amongst passenger cars.
