Maruti Suzuki has signed an MoU with Uttarakhand government to set up a new driving training centre. The new centre would be Uttarakhand's first and only Motor Driving Institute (UMDI) situated at Jhajra village in Dehradun.
The MoU was signed by Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, and Transport Secretary of Government of Uttarakhand, Dr. Umakant Panwar, in the presence of the Chief Minister Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, Chief Minister Uttarakhand, Mr. Banshidhar Bhagat, State Transport Minister and Senior State government officials and dignitaries.
Chief Minister, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri said, “Studies have indicated that driver's fault is one of the main causes of car accidents. I am sure such road accidents can be reduced. We have chosen Maruti Suzuki as they are renowned and have vast experience in running such training institutes. I am sure this institute will help reduce road accidents.”
This is an significant step taken by the company towards 'Road Safety'. Maruti feels that further an integrated approach of car manufacturers, public, stake holders, government, and civil society is also required for the making Indian road safe both for pedestrians and vehicle users.
The proposed training centre by Maruti would inculcate safer driving practices, impart driving skills, and provide technical training to the learners. The state-of-art training centre is also known to provide residential accommodation to all the trainees. It will offer both class room training as well as test tracks training for enhanced driving skills.
