BMW, a leading luxury car manufacturer, being confident of high sales plans to close this calender year with a sales of 2,800 units.
Last year in 2007, the company had successfully sold 1,338 units. This year till date, 2,700 BMW cars have already been sold and the company is sure that it will sell out the remaining 100 cars in the left over days of the year.
In favour of the sales target, the Managing Director of BMW, Stefan Hulsenberg said, “Our sales target for the current year is 2,800 units. The sales ratio between BMW 5 and BMW 3 series models is 55:45. The economic slowdown has not impacted our sales till now.” He also added that the company rolls out about 12 cars every day with a mix of 3 Series and 5 Series. These cars are being rolled out from its Chennai facility.
He further added, “Unlike our other plants, we have implemented batch production system here as this plant assembles completely knocked down (CKD) kits. Each batch consists of 24 units. The production line is highly flexible”.
The company have indianized car seats for both the cars and localized the door panels only for the BMW 5-Series. The company has further plans to increase the level of localization after they starts procuring components from India for global operations.
