It’s raining rewards for 2012 London Olympics medal winners from Haryana! As a token of appreciation, the Haryana Government felicitated the winners from the state with cash rewards and luxury cars on a ceremony held at Sonepat district on Sunday.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda conferred a cash prize of Rs.1.5 crore to wrestler Sushil Kumar for bagging a silver medal while wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, star shuttler Saina Nehwal and shooter Gagan Narang were rewarded Rs. 1 crore each for winning bronze at the 2012 London Olympics.
They were also given luxury Audi cars, LED TV sets and other electrical gadgets for their exceptional achievement. Hooda further announced land for all four medalists to help them set up training academies in Haryana.
Fifteen other Olympic participants from Haryana including Vijender Singh, Krishna Punia and others were also honoured on the occasion with cash rewards and Maruti Suzuki SX4 cars.
2012 London Olympics have been an exceptionally successful year for India with the country bagging as many as 6 medals including 2 silver and 4 bronze, which is indeed India’s best performance in Olympics in terms of number of medals won.
