Tata Motors is gearing up to roll out the CNG and diesel variants of Nano very soon.
Enlightening us on this, Karl Slym, Managing Director Tata Motors (Domestic) said, "Plans in this regard are not on hold. We have talked about both of those variants. The Nano CNG is within the sight of first half of next calendar year."
The diesel variant of the Nano is expected to come sometime next year. Tata Nano’s sales went up by 4 per cent this October 2012.
Commenting on Nano's not-so-impressive volumes, Tata Motors Passenger Car Business Unit President Ranjit Yadav said, "Of course we are way behind our plans or expectations that we had. But now Nano is finding home for itself in many new segments, including urban areas."
Touting Nano as the trump card for the company, Yadav said, "We have seen interesting growth, about 31 per cent in the last couple of quarters."
The Tata official also said that the Nano cannot be compared to the other small cars in the segment as it itself is a class on its own.
"The Nano is a category and class by itself. There is enough space to grow in that category. More players in the market means more opportunities for customers to explore," Yadav added.
