BMW unveiled the preview of the prototypes of its two concept cars- i3 and i8 at Born Electric tour's visit to New York. The global tour organized by the company has New York as the only halt for US. The global tour includes Rome, Dusseldorf, Tokyo, London, Paris and Shanghai
The BMW i3 Concept is equipped with zero-emission all-electric engine. It is designed for city use. The BMW i3 and i8 will be available for customers in 2013 and 2014 respectively. These cars will be the first purpose built electric and hybrid-electric production vehicles made from carbon fibre.
Introduced by the BMW group last year, BMW-I is in the process of preparing for the launch of its vehicles in the coming years. The BMW-i will help in reviving the position of BMW Group as the most sustainable and innovative automobile manufacturer across the globe. It will also help in responding to the eco-sustainable mobility challenges of the future.
Peter Miles, executive vice president (operations) BMW Group North America said, "As street parking continues to be one of the biggest challenges in our congested cities and because the time spent searching for parking is a major reason for increased emissions and wasted fuel, we feel that our involvement with these innovations is a key component of BMW i strategy".
