General Motors said that it was hopeful of selling about 4,000 units per month of its new Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback in India this year although the market has been lethargic owing to the interest rates and high inflations. Recently, Chevrolet Sail U-VA hatchback has been launched in Kerala where General Motors is targeting about 250 units to be sold every month.
Lowell Paddock, President and Managing Director, General Motors India, said, "Chevrolet Sail U-VA was an important addition to GM's small car portfolio in India. 'The car brings a new sense of vitality to the largest, fastest growing and competitive segment in the domestic passenger car market. We expect India to take its place among world's largest market.
P Balendran, Vice-President, General Motors India, said, "We are expecting market will improve in coming months." General Motors has sold 1,11,510 vehicles (including all the models) across the nation in 2011. 'We will not be able to meet this target as three models had been phased out. But still we will be able to maintain growth in tandem with industrial growth', he added.
General Motors is planning to add two more models in its portfolio this year- Sedan Vista and 'Enjoy' A Multi purpose vehicle.
