India’s reluctance for hot hatches seems to be waning now with Volkswagen all set to launch its Polo 1.6 diesel hot hatch very soon.
India’s skepticism for hot hatches is quite understandable. In a country where fuel prices hit through the roof at the drop of a hat, hot hatches have never quite managed to get buyers. But all that is about to change now with the POLO GTD that is being passed on as an extremely efficient and high-performance hot hatch.
Volkswagen plans to launch India’s first diesel Polo hot hatch with Vento’s 1.6-litre diesel motor. The new diesel car will get a new body kit, low-profile tyres and other sporty bits as part of the package.
The Polo GTD is likely to hit the Indian turf in early 2013. The heavily accessorized GTD will cost significantly higher than the existing 1.2 diesel Polo. But then, VW is not expecting to hit a jackpot with this hot hatch which is more likely to add up as a brand-booster.
