National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 which is believed to change the face of electric vehicles in India is expected to be launched in next few weeks. The plan which has been in discussion since few years, had to take off during the month of July this year. This plan would include setting of two government boards namely National Council for Electric Mobility and National Board for Electric Mobility under the administration of the minister. NEMMP 2020 would have a set of objectives and goals which are directed towards a vision of setting up of proper supporting system to establish electric vehicles in India.
Currently the penetration level of electric vehicles in the market is too low. Government aims at providing subsidy and other necessary support in terms of tax and other areas to electric vehicles. This to great extent would reduce the cost spent on fuel by the government. With such benefits in place more number of companies come forward to produce electric vehicles. According to an estimate about 6 lakh electric vehicles may reach Indian roads by 2020.
Currently Mahindra Reva is the only reputed company producing electric cars for Indian market. The new model Mahindra Reva NXR (E2O) which is expected to be launched by next year has created buzz in automobile market.
