Dr. Steffen Berns Appointed The New Head Of Bosch India

Dr. Steffen Berns has been appointed as the new Managing Director of Bosch Ltd. and President of Bosch Group India. He will take over Mr. VK Viswanathan as the new President of Bosch on January 1, 2013. Mr. VK Viswanathan will retire in end December 2012, but will continue to serve as the Vice Chairman of Bosch Limited as a Non-Whole time Director.

Boasting of A PhD in Mechanical Engineering and armed with a wealth of technical and managerial experience and rich international exposure, Dr. Berns association with Bosh has been a long one. He first teamed up with the Bosh Group in the year 1990 in Stuttgart, Germany. He was also a part of Bosch Group India from 1996-1999, where he managed the OE Sales and R&D before he went on to be the Managing Director of Robert Bosch Engineering Business Solutions.

Up till now, Dr. Berns was the head of the electronics business of the Diesel Division and has been member of the Board of Bosch Gasoline Systems Division since 2006.

Talking about his new role, Dr. Berns said “Bosch in India has an excellent track record with its strong growth, good customer relationships, local development, strong talent base and manufacturing capabilities. We will continue and extend the journey further by strengthening local innovations and will additionally focus more on opportunities in the non-automotive business fields, e.g. power tools, security technology, thermo technology and capital goods.”

Applauding Dr. Berns on the appointment, Mr. VK Viswanathan said, “Steffen brings with him a wide range of experience and expertise in several automotive domains. His prudent insight garnered from his various technical and senior management roles will augur well for Bosch in India. I firmly believe that Bosch in India would continue to grow under his leadership and I would like to extend my best wishes to him on his new role.”
