Mahindra and Mahindra Reports a Growth Of 6 Percent in December Sales

Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. reported a 6 percent rise in sales in the month of December 2012 as compared to the number of units sold in December 2011. Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd., India’s one of the biggest SUV manufacturer, sold 45297 vehicles in December 2012 whereas 42761 vehicles were sold in December 2011.

The company’s domestic sales depict an increase of 6 percent in the sales. The passenger vehicle segment, which comprises of the utility vehicles and Verito, reported a growth of 18 percent. Last month, 22,761 units of the passenger vehicles were sold whereas 19,341 passenger vehicles were sold during December 2011. The 4 wheeler commercial segment reported a sale of 13706 vehicles. This segment consists of the passenger and load categories. The 3 wheeler segment registered a sale of 5209 vehicles in December 2012.

While addressing the monthly performance, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “High interest rates, rising fuel prices and an overall slowdown in economic growth has kept consumer sentiment low during 2012. This is also evident in the auto industry sales performance for December, which traditionally has been a lean month. We do hope that corrective measures are announced and implemented soon bringing in the much needed buoyancy and growth for the industry. At Mahindra, we are happy to maintain our growth momentum even during these challenging times.”
