The automotive market leader, Maruti Suzuki registered 6% increase in domestic sales of its passenger vehicles during December 2012, when compared to corresponding period of previous year. The mid-size sedan Swift Dzire, the MPV Eriga and some of its hatchbacks made positive contribution towards this achievement of the automobile manufacturer. The auto major sold 82,073 units in domestic market, in the last month of 2012. The overall sales stood up to 95,154 units, a 3% growth in comparison with 92,161 units which the company registered during December 2011.
The saloons from Maruti Suzuki got mixed response in the market. During December 2012, the company sold 13,076 Swift Dzires. This was positive for Maruti Suzuki since the numbers came up to 9,189 for Swift Dzire in same month of previous year. The sales of SX4 dropped to 329 cars in comparison with 843 cars sold in same month of previous year. The hot selling hatchbacks Swift, Ritz and Estilo saw sales peak by about 8%.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga which entered the MPV market added few numbers to the company. The auto maker sold 5,447units of Ertiga in December. The exports fell during the month by 11%. The sales of basic hatchbacks like Alto, A Star and Wagon R also witnessed a downward trend. The firm pointed out at European economic crisis and rising petrol prices in the country as reasons for this drop in business.
The company has planned to facelift its premium sedan, SX4 for 2013. The price tag of this new model may have small changes compared to previous year.
