The Italian auto company, Fiat has plans to launch a high-performance version of its hatchback in India. This automobile, simply called ‘Abarth’, was showcased for the first time in 2007 in Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle has meshed grille and air dam unit and its fog lamps have black surrounds. Decals decorate the body of Grande Punto Abarth. Performance is the strength of this automobile. It has 1.4L engine which is tuned to deliver 165 bhp. This is around twice the power available in Grande Punto models. The vehicle can touch 100 km/hr mark from standstill in about 8 seconds. The top speed of this automobile will be over 200 km/hr.

Capable engines require superior components in the drive train to withstand its capacity. Fiat may mend the suspension system and braking of existing Grande Punto to make its drive train live up to the abilities of Abarth. Global version of this car has two doors but this may change when it comes to India. Fiat may introduce a four-door version of this sporty vehicle to Indian consumers.

The Italian auto giant is planning to launch the vehicle this year with a price tag of around Rs. 9 lakh. If launched in this price range, Abarth will be an interesting product because currently there are no performance oriented models in Indian market available at this cost. Fiat may introduce Jeep brand to India in 2013. The paramount SUVs of Jeep, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler are expected to hit the market before the end of the year.
