The Swedish auto manufacturer, Volvo has registered growth in sales of its luxurious cars in 2012. The company which has little penetration in Indian car market gained an increase in its market share in the segment. For the company, the sales of luxurious cars increased by 155% in the year 2012 when compared to previous year. It sold 811 units during the year and aims to increase this number to 1200 units for the year 2013.
Speaking about this growth, Mr. Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director of Volvo Auto India said, “Volvo has sold 811 units in Indian market, which was 155 per cent more than 2011, even as the penetration of luxury segment has gone up from less than one per cent to 1.3 per cent. Volvo aims to achieve a 15 per cent market share in the luxury segment by 2020 and want to sell at least 20,000 units by then.”
The most awaited luxury hatchback, Volvo V40 Cross Country may reach the consumers by the month of June, 2013. The car is huge, stylish, and luxurious and is expected to come out in both diesel and petrol versions. The auto maker has given importance to safety of the passengers while building this plush hatchback. It may have a price tag of over Rs. 25 lakhs.
The Swedish auto giant presented 9400XL bus models to Maharashtra Tourism Department last month. These buses have some top-class facilities like LCD TV, Wi-Fi connectivity, pantries and toilets built within. It is a multi-axle model and first of its type on Indian roads, till date.
