The largest commercial vehicle manufacturer of the country, Tata has now increased the warranty period on its heavy commercial vehicles by two years. The vehicles which have Gross Vehicle Weight over 25 tonnes get this warranty of four years. Company covers the driveline (which includes gear box, engine and rear axle) as standard under this scheme. Other commercial vehicles which previously had a warranty period of 18 months are covered for 24 months from 2013. This scheme of the auto major is available over vehicles which are sold post January 6th, 2013. Tata conducted a study on lifecycle cost of about 15 lakh trucks which work under different load, road and temperature conditions of the country before it arrived at this new scheme.
Mr. Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director – Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, commented about the new warranty scheme saying, “For close to 60 years now, Tata Motors has been a step ahead in offering new technologies, products and value added services. The 4-year warranty is another industry first, in our pursuit of partnering the customer through the lifecycle of the product. We believe that it is a perfect New Year gift to our customers.”
The Indian automobile giant has a large network of service station in the country to support the scheme. The highways of the country have an outlet of the brand for every 50 km. Further, the company has ‘Tata Alert’ where the customer can call the helpline number of the company when there is a breakdown on any highway. The company claims that repair issues are fixed within 48 hours from the start of work in such highway breakdown cases.
